In 2000, Ektaa Kapoor once again transformed the television scene with her groundbreaking show Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which forever altered Indian TV. This show, which captivated audiences across the nation, debuted at the dawn of the new millennium and ran for an impressive eight years, wrapping up in 2008. Throughout its airing, Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi consistently topped the TRP charts, dominating the Indian television landscape and leaving little space for other serials to thrive.
Starring Smriti Irani as the beloved Tulsi Virani, the show became a cultural phenomenon in India and continues to evoke nostalgia for those who grew up in the 90s.
Is Ektaa Kapoor bringing back Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi?
Ektaa Kapoor is looking to tap into some nostalgia. Reports suggest that the head of Balaji is gearing up to bring back Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi to the small screen. Instead of just re-running the original series, she plans to revive the concept with the same cast but a new storyline, and this time it will be a limited series.
As per a report from Pinkvilla, the revival is being kept under wraps for the moment. While it hasn't been officially labeled as Season 2 yet, Ektaa is in talks to bring back Amar Upadhyay and Smriti Irani as Mihir and Tulsi Virani. The new iteration will introduce a fresh plot while still capturing the spirit of the beloved 2000s show. Production is already underway, but the team is keeping the specifics a secret for now.
In the meantime, there are reports that Smriti Irani, the former Minister of Women and Child Development, is gearing up for her comeback to television and acting. She's putting in a lot of effort to step back into her famous role. On another note, Amar Upadhyay has apparently left a show he was involved with earlier than expected, leading to rumors that he's doing this to concentrate on the revival of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
The original series was a joint effort by Shobha Kapoor and Ektaa Kapoor, produced under the Balaji Telefilms label. Rumor has it that Ektaa Kapoor and her team are set to officially announce the revival of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi in June 2025, as they are putting in a lot of hard work to make it happen.
