The Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah team has finally chosen an actor to play Dayaben. According to a report from News18, "mock shoots with the actress are currently in progress." Asit Modi is the producer of the show.

The report, citing its source, stated, “Absolutely, that’s true. Asit ji has been on the hunt for a new Dayaben, and he was really impressed by one of the recent auditions. They’re currently doing mock shoots with the actress. She’s been here for about a week, filming with us.”

Who was the previous actress to portray Dayaben?

Actor Disha Vakani, who portrayed the beloved character Dayaben on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, has been absent from the show since she went on maternity leave in 2018.

When Asit said he would bring Disha back for the show

Almost two years ago, Asit mentioned to India Today that he would be bringing Disha back to the show. "Congratulations to everyone on this incredible 15-year journey. One artist we can’t overlook is Daya Bhabhi, also known as Disha Vakani. She has brought joy and laughter to fans throughout the years. Many have been eagerly anticipating her return, and I assure you all that Disha Vakani will be back on Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah soon," Asit had stated back then..

Speculation about Disha leaving the show

In 2022, there were claims that Disha developed throat cancer due to Dayaben's distinctive voice on the show. The director, Malav Rajda, responded to these allegations. Later that October, he took to Instagram to call out the misinformation, posting a screenshot of a report that suggested Disha had throat problems because of Dayaben's unique vocal style.
