Disha Vakani gained widespread recognition for her role in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, where she portrayed the character of Dayaben. The show, produced by Asit Kumarr Modi, has enjoyed a successful run for 16 years. Nevertheless, Dayaben has not appeared in the sitcom for the past six years. In a recent interview with News18, Asit addressed the potential for Disha's return to the series as Dayaben.
Will Disha Vakani return as Dayaben?
The producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah acknowledged the importance of reinstating Dayaben's character. However, the return has been postponed due to several factors. He explained to the news outlet, "There were elections in 2024, the IPL, and subsequently the World Cup matches, along with the rainy season. These circumstances have contributed to the delays."
He additionally disclosed that Disha may not reprise her role as Dayaben in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah. Despite Asit's efforts to facilitate her return, the producer is of the opinion that Disha will not be able to come back.
"I am still making attempts. I believe Disha Vakani cannot return. She has two children. She is akin to my sister. Even now, we maintain a very close bond with her family. My sister Disha Vakani has tied a Rakhi on my wrist. Her father and brother are also considered family to me," he stated.
Why is it difficult for Disha Vakani to return?
Asit elaborated that Disha's return to TMKOC poses challenges, as a woman's life undergoes significant changes post-marriage. He noted that it can be particularly difficult for women to balance work responsibilities while caring for young children and managing household duties. "If she decides to return, it would be a positive development. However, if she is unable to do so for any reason, I will need to find another actress to portray Dayaben for the series," Asit stated.
