RG Kar incident: Bengali serials borrow ideas from real-life protests

Not every person can walk in a rally or join a protest demonstration. People have different forms of protest. Also, the entertainment world is committed to society since it can bring public education. Hence the RG Kar incident and the subsequent protests are coming to the television. The serial Akash Kusum was a pioneer where the heroine combatted a rape incident. Now, the serial Ke Prothom Kache Esechi portrays the Reclaim the Night of August 14. The heroine of the serial, Madhubani, protests with her companions in the street at night.
Dwitiyo Bosonto shows the hero Aniruddha's little daughter Mihi teaching good touches and bad touches at her school. Geeta LLB shows the heroine Geeta legally helping a rape victim.
The producer and director Snehasish Chakraborty told Anandabazar Online, “Rather than imposing an issue within the story, if an entire serial is made revolving around the issue, it has more value. Geeta is that girl who has been by the side of the victim since the first day. Coincidentally, I started working on this much before the RG Kar incident.”
Meanwhile, Swastika Ghosh, the female lead of the serial Anurager Chowa, said, “Our story also touched on the issue in an episode.” She said that Deepa, her character, has always protested against such incidents. She taught how to protest injustice. Hence people loved her.
However, there is another side to the story. The TRP increases if such an ongoing issue is portrayed. Hence the writers are opting for that.
