YouTube is really ramping up its game to tackle the growing issue of deepfake videos, especially those that feature celebrities. With AI tech getting better all the time, there's a bigger chance for it to be misused, which has led to a spike in AI-generated scams and deepfakes. These fake videos, often showcasing famous people, are looking more and more convincing, making it tough to tell what's real and what's not.
YouTube teams up with CAA to create AI detection tools.
YouTube is teaming up with the Creative Artists Agency (CAA) to tackle the issue of AI-generated content. They're working on tools that can spot videos imitating a creator's look, voice, or other unique features. This will also make it simpler for creators to ask for the removal of these videos. The rollout is set for next year, starting with celebrities and athletes, and then expanding to include top creators, influencers, and professionals on the platform.
This move is part of YouTube's larger strategy to deal with rising worries about impersonation and the unauthorized use of AI-generated images. The platform had already hinted at its plans to fight against this kind of misuse back in September.
CAAVault
CAA, known for representing a bunch of big-name stars, has been ahead of the game when it comes to these challenges. Last year, they rolled out CAAVault, a system that scans and keeps digital records of their clients' appearances, like their faces, bodies, and voices. This tech is set to work alongside YouTube's detection tools, helping creators and celebs monitor and manage how their digital identities are used on the platform.
AI Misuse in Music
YouTube is not just focusing on deepfake videos; they're also tackling the issue of AI being used to copy creators' singing voices. They're working on a new tech called "synthetic-singing identification technology" that will help spot songs made by AI that sound like real artists. Music labels are already asking for the removal of these unauthorized AI tracks, and YouTube's upcoming tools will help with that.
Earlier this year, YouTube rolled out a policy that requires creators to tag videos featuring AI-generated content. This is all about keeping things transparent and making sure viewers know when something has been created by AI.
