The process of organizing meetings and establishing reminders on WhatsApp is set to become significantly more user-friendly. The messaging application is launching a new event scheduling feature for one-on-one chats, thereby enhancing a capability that was previously restricted to group and community discussions. This enhancement will enable users to generate and disseminate events directly within private conversations, thereby facilitating easier coordination between individuals.

Feature Spotted in Beta Testing

According to WABetaInfo, certain beta testers have already identified this feature following their update to the latest beta version of WhatsApp for Android, specifically 2.25.3.6, available through the Google Play Store. A screenshot provided by WABetaInfo reveals that the event option is positioned after the Poll option when users select the ‘Plus' icon in a private chat. This new functionality allows users to organize events, schedule meetings, and set reminders without the need to sift through previous messages.

Recipients of an event invitation will have the choice to accept or decline, facilitating clear communication between the involved parties. As the event details are retained within the chat, users can conveniently reference them at any time. Currently, this feature is restricted to a select group of beta testers but is anticipated to be rolled out to a broader audience in the upcoming weeks.

Andhra Pradesh Launches WhatsApp Chatbot for Public Services

The Government of Andhra Pradesh has launched 'Mana Mitra,' a WhatsApp chatbot aimed at delivering digital public services to approximately 50 million citizens. This initiative, developed in partnership with Meta, provides access to more than 160 services, such as electricity bill payments, temple reservations, bus ticket bookings, revenue services, municipal services, and grievance resolution.

Residents can engage with the chatbot by sending 'Hi' to 9552300009 on WhatsApp. The service is available in both Telugu and English, enabling users to check bus availability, make payments, and conduct transactions directly within the application. Payments can be made using UPI, credit, or debit cards, thus removing the necessity for additional applications or website navigation.

This initiative incorporates WhatsApp Flows, allowing users to explore services through organized menus and interactive forms. The Andhra Pradesh government seeks to simplify access to public services, making it as effortless as conversing with a friend. The collaboration with Meta aligns with the broader objective of improving digital accessibility throughout the region.
