Meta's instant messaging application, WhatsApp, has been experimenting with new interactive functionalities for its Android user base. Recently, the app received minor enhancements, including features like double-tap reactions, selfie stickers, and shareable sticker packs. Currently, the company is trialling a novel feature reminiscent of Instagram, allowing users to incorporate music into their status updates. This addition aims to enhance the visual appeal and personalization of WhatsApp statuses, similar to the experience offered by the Instagram platform. Further details regarding this new feature and its anticipated release for Android users will be available soon.

WhatsApp to add music to status updates

According to a report from WABetaInfo, WhatsApp is introducing the "Music for status updates" feature, which has transitioned from development to beta testing for Android users. With the update of WhatsApp beta for Android version 2.25.2.5, testers are now able to evaluate the functionality of this feature before its public release. The Status update function will incorporate a new music button within the drawing editor, allowing users to explore and select songs to enhance their status updates, thereby making them more "engaging and expressive," as noted in the report.

It is anticipated that WhatsApp will offer a music library akin to that of Instagram, featuring a variety of genres from different artists and popular tracks. After choosing a song, users will have the option to select specific segments of the music to include. For photo-based stories, users can add music for up to 15 seconds, while videos will allow music to play for the entire duration. Once the status is updated, contacts will be able to view the song associated with the story, similar to the functionality available on Instagram.

Currently, the Music for Status Updates feature is in the testing phase and is accessible to a limited number of users in the stable version. Additionally, it has been reported that the WhatsApp beta for iOS version 25.1.10.73 includes a comparable feature for iOS users, indicating that this functionality is also expected to be available for iPhone users soon.
