WhatsApp rolled out a variety of new features in January 2025, improving the user experience on Android, iOS, and desktop platforms. Many of these enhancements were previously offered in beta and are now available to all users. To take advantage of the latest features, please ensure that your app is updated to the latest version.

Here are the key updates that WhatsApp users can now enjoy:

1. AI Studio for Chat

WhatsApp has introduced the AI Studio feature, enabling users to interact with a variety of AI personas. These personalities include cultural icons and well-known characters, offering an entertaining means of engagement for those seeking conversation. This feature can be accessed via the Meta AI chat window.

2. Built-in Dial Pad for iOS Users

iPhone users now benefit from an integrated dial pad within the WhatsApp application. By selecting the plus (+) icon located in the Calls tab, users can directly enter phone numbers for dialling, eliminating the need to save them to their contacts beforehand.

3. Double Tap to React

A newly introduced feature enables users to double-tap on messages to swiftly respond with emojis. This functionality is akin to the liking feature found in Instagram's direct messages. By tapping on a message, users can access the emoji reaction menu and choose their desired emoji.

4. Custom Photo Stickers and Sticker Pack Sharing

WhatsApp has introduced a feature that enables users to generate personalized stickers using images from their photo gallery. The application will automatically extract the main subject from the selected image, converting it into a sticker. Additionally, users have the option to share sticker packs with others by sending a direct link from the sticker section.

5. Background Effects for Photos

WhatsApp has broadened its background effects, which were previously limited to video and status updates, to include standard photos in private conversations. Users can now apply a variety of effects and filters to their photos before sending them.

6. Add Message Before Forwarding

WhatsApp has simplified the process for Android users to include personalized messages when forwarding text, media, or links. This feature is now available to all Android users.
