Passengers can conveniently monitor their luggage in real time through the “My Trips” section of the Air India mobile application or by accessing the “Track My Bags” feature on the airline's website. Furthermore, scanning the barcode on the baggage receipt allows for tracking the luggage's status. This user-friendly method enhances the tracking experience and keeps passengers informed throughout their travels.

Procedure for Reporting and Recovering Lost Baggage

If a bag equipped with an AirTag fails to arrive at its destination, passengers should report the situation at Air India's Baggage Counter. The staff will assist in completing a Property Irregularity Report (PIR) and provide guidance on sharing the AirTag's location. By utilizing the Apple “Find My” app, travelers can create a “Share Item Location” link and send it directly to the airline for additional support.

Privacy and Accessibility

Air India prioritizes privacy, ensuring that location tracking will cease automatically once the bag is retrieved. Passengers also have the option to manually disable tracking or allow it to expire after seven days.

This feature is accessible to passengers using Apple devices running iOS 18.2, iPadOS 18.2, or macOS 15.2 or later versions.

Air India has launched an innovative method for tracking baggage, enhancing the ability of passengers to stay updated on the status of their checked luggage. By incorporating Apple AirTag technology into its baggage-tracking system, the airline enables travelers using iPhone, iPad, or Mac devices to securely monitor their bags. This initiative positions Air India as the first airline in Asia to provide such a feature, offering passengers increased convenience and security.

Real-Time Tracking for Checked Luggage

The airline processes over 100 million baggage items each year, achieving a remarkable on-time delivery rate of 99.6 percent. Nevertheless, for the few bags that may be delayed due to unexpected airport circumstances or missed connections, the new AirTag system will facilitate quicker recovery. With the integration of Apple's tracking technology, Air India seeks to alleviate the inconvenience for passengers when situations do not proceed as expected.
