Reddit Experiences Worldwide Outage: Users Encounter Posting, Profile Update, and Feed Access Difficulties
1 month ago | 5 Views
Numerous Reddit users globally are experiencing extensive problems with the platform, resulting in considerable interruptions to their user experience. A significant number are finding themselves unable to comment, change their profile pictures, or access their feeds. This situation is particularly affecting users in cities such as Pune, Mumbai, Delhi, and Hyderabad in India, as well as Dallas, Denver, and Los Angeles in the United States. In light of these challenges, many individuals have resorted to alternative platforms like Downdetector and various social media channels to voice their concerns.
No Official Response Yet from Reddit
Despite the extensive outages, Reddit has yet to officially recognize the underlying cause or provide a timeline for resolution. The platform's status page continues to assert that all systems are "operational," and no incidents have been documented as of Thursday. Nevertheless, due to the widespread nature of the disruptions, numerous users are expressing frustration while awaiting an official statement.
For those encountering similar difficulties, Reddit advises users to report these issues. This may aid their technical team in diagnosing the problem and striving for a resolution. Although Reddit has not disclosed specific details regarding the outage, it is probable that measures are already being taken to restore normal operations.
Banned Reddit Community Returns
In recent developments on Reddit, the r/WhitePeopleTwitter community, which faced a ban due to threats directed at personnel from Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), has made its return online, as reported by Business Insider. The subreddit was temporarily suspended after Musk released a screenshot revealing discussions among community members regarding the identities of certain DOGE staff, with some remarks implying violent intentions. Musk subsequently remarked that the Reddit users had “broken the law.”
Following a two-week period of inaccessibility, the subreddit was restored earlier this week. Although users are now permitted to post publicly once more, the comment section remains restricted. The moderators of the community have established new guidelines, which include prohibitions against harassment, bullying, and violence. They also advocate for users to “attack ideas, not people.”
Reddit, in its efforts to maintain a civil space for discussion, had previously warned the subreddit's moderators after discovering content that violated its rules. According to the company, steps like pop-up reminders are taken before banning communities, and the goal is to ensure Reddit remains a platform where ideas and perspectives can be exchanged.
