Instagram has launched a new functionality that permits users to schedule direct messages (DMs). This feature, initially reported by TechCrunch, allows individuals to long-press the "send" button and choose a specific date and time for their message to be dispatched.
Instagram DM Features scheduling Feature
As stated on Instagram's support page, this feature is applicable solely to text-based messages. Multimedia elements such as photos, videos, or GIFs must still be transmitted in real time. After scheduling a message, a notification will appear within the chat, displaying the number of messages designated for future delivery. By tapping on this notification, users have the option to either cancel or send the message immediately through a straightforward long press.
Scheduling Limits
At present, Instagram permits users to schedule messages as far in advance as 29 days. This feature is a component of the platform's extensive efforts to improve its direct messaging system. Recent enhancements also encompass the ability to edit messages, annotate photos, and share real-time locations with friends, akin to functionalities available on Snapchat.
New Year Collage and Holiday Features
In addition to updates regarding direct messaging, Instagram has launched a new feature designed to assist users in reflecting on the past year. This tool allows individuals to create a collage of their favourite moments from 2024, which can then be shared as a story. Available during the first week of January, this feature simplifies the process of combining multiple photos from the year into a single collage, eliminating the need for manual resizing and repositioning of images.
Furthermore, Instagram is introducing temporary features to commemorate the holiday season. New "Add Yours" templates enable friends to respond to your story with their contributions, while festive text effects such as "New Year" and "Countdown" have been incorporated. Additionally, holiday-themed chat themes and secret phrases like "Happy New Year" now activate special effects in direct messages and notes.
