Instagram Introduces Trial Reels: A New Way to Test Content
7 days ago | 5 Views
If you are an active user of Instagram and frequently create short-form content through Instagram Reels, you may have encountered uncertainty regarding the performance of your content and the reactions it may elicit from viewers. This uncertainty can create hesitation when it comes to deciding whether to publish a particular piece of content. To alleviate this issue, Instagram has introduced a new feature known as "Trial Reels," as announced by Adam Mosseri. This feature enables you to share your reel without it being visible to your followers. The reel will not even be displayed on your profile. Only after you are content with the reel's metrics and overall performance, after a certain period, can you opt to share it with your followers and the broader audience.
Trial Reels: Everything You Need to Know
This initiative primarily serves as a means for Instagram to assist creators in evaluating the performance of new content formats. It provides the capability to share reels with individuals who do not follow you. According to Instagram, this feature allows you to gauge the engagement of the reel among non-followers, with valuable insights becoming available 24 hours post-publication.
Although the reel will not be displayed on your profile, it may still be visible to your followers if it is shared with them by others. Instagram further indicates that Trial Reels will be distributed to your non-followers, and once you are satisfied with its performance, you have the option to share it with your followers. Additionally, you can configure it to be automatically shared after a specified duration.
How to Use Trial Reels
To begin, create a reel in the same manner as you would for any other content. Given that Trial Reels are intended to test new material, you have the opportunity to explore various types of reels before their submission to Trial Reels. When you are prepared, you will notice an option to activate the Trial Reels feature on the sharing page, just before you click the share button. After you have shared the reel, it will be saved in your drafts.
It is also essential to understand that Instagram indicates that only you will be aware of whether your reel is classified as a Trial Reel; this information will not be visible to others. Additionally, you have the option to automatically share your reel with a wider audience if it performs well in terms of views within the first 72 hours, or you may choose to share it manually if you believe the reel is receiving positive engagement.
