Google Expands Circle to Search to iPhones – Learn to Use It
1 month ago | 5 Views
Google's popular 'Circle to Search' functionality, which made a significant impact in the Android ecosystem in 2024, is now accessible to iPhone users. This AI-powered tool has become well-regarded for its capability to conduct visual searches conveniently, and its introduction to iPhones represents a notable enhancement, albeit with certain limitations.
How It Works on iPhones
Originally available solely on Android devices, this feature has been renamed “Screen Search with Google Lens” for iPhone users. To utilize it, individuals must download the Google Lens application. However, in contrast to its Android version, it does not operate system-wide on iPhones. Currently, it is limited to use within the Chrome and Google applications. This limitation is one of the compromises Google made to extend the feature to iPhone users, yet it still provides considerable value within the supported applications.
To access the feature, users can locate it in the three-dot menu situated in the upper-right corner of both the Chrome and Google apps on iOS. Once activated, it enables users to highlight, draw, or tap on objects displayed on the screen without exiting the app. This functionality enhances the browsing experience in Chrome and searching within the Google app, allowing for immediate visual searches.
Future Enhancements and AI Overviews
Google has indicated that this feature is particularly beneficial while navigating in Chrome. Users can swiftly look up information on items they encounter while browsing the internet without the need to capture a screenshot or open a new tab. In the upcoming months, Google plans to introduce a new Lens icon in the address bar for streamlined access to the Screen Search feature.
Google is enhancing the functionalities of Google Lens. The newly introduced AI Overview feature, which is already integrated into standard Google searches, will now be available through the Lens search option. This feature will deliver comprehensive information about various objects, including plants, products, and landmarks, directly from visual searches. AI Overviews will be displayed alongside search results, providing additional context and essential details about the identified items.
For users on both iOS and Android platforms, Google Lens will persist in recognizing billions of objects from an extensive image database. Leveraging the capabilities of AI, the tool is now able to provide more profound insights into unique or less common images. Consequently, AI Overviews will become more prevalent, enhancing the overall search experience for users. This update will be implemented globally, allowing iPhone users to explore and benefit from these new AI-driven search functionalities.
