Everything You Need to Know About iOS 19: Compatible Devices and New Innovations

Apple is currently in the process of deploying the iOS 18 update, yet attention is already turning towards the forthcoming major release: iOS 19. Recent reports suggest that iOS 19 is expected to be announced at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June 2025. In a departure from previous practices, Apple intends to maintain support for all iPhone models that are compatible with iOS 18, thereby ensuring a smooth transition for users across different generations of iPhones.
iOS 19 Update: Device Compatibility (Rumoured)
As reported by the French website iPhoneSoft.fr, iOS 19 is anticipated to be compatible with all iPhones currently operating on iOS 18. This includes the iPhone 16 series, which comprises the iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Plus, iPhone 16 Pro, and iPhone 16 Pro Max. Users of the iPhone 15 series (iPhone 15, iPhone 15 Plus, iPhone 15 Pro, and iPhone 15 Pro Max) will also be eligible for the update.
Furthermore, older models such as the iPhone 14 series (iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro, and iPhone 14 Pro Max), the iPhone 13 series (iPhone 13, iPhone 13 mini, iPhone 13 Pro, and iPhone 13 Pro Max), and the iPhone 12 series (iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, and iPhone 12 Pro Max) will continue to qualify for iOS 19. Even earlier devices, including the iPhone 11 series (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, and iPhone 11 Pro Max), will be able to receive the new update.
Additionally, the iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, and iPhone SE (2nd generation and later) will also support the installation of iOS 19. This strategy underscores Apple's ongoing dedication to providing support for a broader array of devices, marking the second consecutive year in which older iPhone models will not be excluded from a major iOS release.
In contrast, iPad users should note that iPadOS 19 will not be compatible with the iPad 7 (2019). However, other iPads currently running iPadOS 18 will be eligible for the update.
iOS 19 Update: Release Timeline and Features
Apple is anticipated to unveil the initial beta versions of iOS 19 and iPadOS 19 during WWDC 2025, with a complete launch scheduled for September. Although detailed features have not been disclosed, there is conjecture that iOS 19 may introduce a more interactive iteration of Siri, akin to ChatGPT, which could potentially debut with iOS 19.4 in March 2026.
