On December 26, ChatGPT faced another global outage, hitting users with high error rates. It wasn't just ChatGPT; OpenAI's Sora and API also went offline, creating a significant hassle for everyone. This marks the second big outage in just one month, sparking concerns about the reliability of OpenAI's services and the reasons behind these recurring issues. During the latest outage, users encountered messages like "404 Error, Page Not Found" or "Request is not allowed. Please try again later." Get the full scoop on the recent ChatGPT global outage.
ChatGPT worldwide downtime
The OpenAI status page has indicated that ChatGPT is currently facing a significant outage, while Sora and the API are experiencing a partial outage. Users have been voicing their frustrations as they can't access the tool. This has raised concerns among ChatGPT Pro users, who pay $200 for full access to all features. OpenAI acknowledged the issue in a post on X, saying, "We're sorry for the trouble this is causing. We've identified the issue and have started recovery." After looking into it, they found that the problem stemmed from an upstream provider and mentioned, "We are currently monitoring."
On X, many ChatGPT users began sharing their thoughts on the global outage, with some humorously stating, "ChatGPT is down again, back to using my own brain." Others suggested trying Grok, which was functioning well and free to use. This isn't the first time ChatGPT has faced a global outage; back on December 12, the servers were down, and just a few days ago, users had trouble signing up. Dall-E and the Moderation API also encountered issues.
In addition to the web version of ChatGPT being down, iPhone users faced problems with Siri's ChatGPT integration, which was also throwing errors. As a result, whenever ChatGPT has issues, iPhone users will find themselves unable to access several features that rely on it.
