Backlash Forces Microsoft to Restore Previous DALL-E Model
7 hours ago | 5 Views
Microsoft has opted to revert an update to its AI-driven Bing Image Creator in response to user feedback regarding the quality of its results. The company launched an enhanced version of the DALL-E 3 model on December 18th; however, numerous users indicated that the tool's performance had deteriorated following this update.
Microsoft Addresses User Feedback
The organization has not offered comprehensive clarifications concerning the rollback or the reasons for the discrepancy between user expectations and the actual outcomes, as reported by Techcrunch. Nevertheless, in a tweet, Jordi Ribas, the head of search at Microsoft, recognized that some of the concerns raised by users could indeed be replicated. Consequently, Microsoft is returning to a previous version of the DALL-E model. Ribas noted that this process might require several weeks to finalize.
Quality Issues and User Feedback
Following the introduction of the new model in December, users promptly noted a decline in the quality of images produced by Bing Image Creator. Feedback included observations of less intricate visuals and images that failed to align with their original prompts. Ribas had previously reassured users that the new model would deliver superior quality compared to its predecessor.
On platforms such as Reddit and OpenAI's community forums, users articulated specific issues regarding the model's performance. One user expressed dissatisfaction with the DALL-E 3 model's depiction of fabric on an anime character's dress, contrasting a "perfect quality" image with one suffering from inadequate lighting. Another user criticized the manner in which the tool generated starburst effects in certain images.
Although these complaints represent individual preferences and subjective opinions, they underscore the difficulties Microsoft encounters in reconciling technical challenges with user expectations. As AI-generated art comes under increased scrutiny, it appears that the company must navigate the delicate balance between enhancing the tool and preserving the quality that users anticipate.
