Apple has commenced the rollout of the fourth developer beta of iOS 18.4 for iPhones, accompanied by an updated public beta. This release is now accessible to both developers and beta testers. Although it does not introduce significant new features, the iOS 18.4 Beta 4 primarily aims to rectify user-reported issues. It addresses bugs associated with Apple Intelligence, Notifications, and Siri, while also adding support for Nearby Interaction in applications featuring Live Activity.

Bug Fixes for Apple Intelligence

The iOS 18.4 Beta 4 update resolves several critical issues, particularly concerning Apple Intelligence, Apple's artificial intelligence platform. Users had previously faced challenges with Siri when attempting to utilize Apple Intelligence in languages other than English (US). Furthermore, some users reported that certain Apple Intelligence features were inaccessible, showing a “Downloading support…” message. Another issue necessitated device restarts for the AI features to operate correctly. These problems have been effectively addressed in this update.

Notification and Siri Improvements

In the realm of Notifications, iOS 18.4 Beta 4 addresses an issue that led to notifications flickering or collapsing unexpectedly. Additionally, this update rectifies a problem where certain Siri suggestions were unable to complete in languages other than English.

Furthermore, the update provides solutions for various issues associated with SwiftUI, StoreKit, UIWritingToolsCoordinator, Wi-Fi calling, and Writing Tools. It also resolves known bugs within the Apple Vision Pro app and StoreKit.

A significant new feature introduced in iOS 18.4 Beta 4 is Nearby Interaction. This functionality allows applications with Live Activities to utilize Ultra Wideband technology for device ranging, enabling them to take advantage of Apple's real-time notification system to assess the distance between devices.

In conjunction with iOS 18.4 Beta 4, Apple has also launched updates for other platforms, including the fourth developer betas for iPadOS 18.4, visionOS 2.4, macOS Sequoia 15.4, tvOS 18.4, and watchOS 11.4. The stable version of iOS 18.4 is anticipated to be released in April 2025.
