Android Auto Levels Up: Now Play Games Right from Your Car’s Screen!
8 days ago | 5 Views
For the first time, Android Auto is set to introduce gaming capabilities on your vehicle's display, but there is a caveat. Last month, Google announced that users would soon be able to play select Android games while driving, a development that has generated significant interest. Nevertheless, the specifics regarding its launch and the necessary requirements have prompted some inquiries.
When Google first proposed the concept of playing Android games via Android Auto in March, it did not disclose when this feature would become available or what prerequisites users would need to fulfill. Recently, some games have started to appear on Android Auto displays following the Android Auto 14.1 beta update. However, this update is not the key to accessing the gaming feature, contrary to initial assumptions. Google later informed 9to5Google that having the latest beta version of Android Auto is not a requirement for gaming. In fact, games function seamlessly on Android Auto 14.0, which is a stable version.
The Essential Requirement is Android 15
The primary requirement is related to the version of Android installed on your smartphone. To take advantage of gaming through Android Auto, your device must operate on Android 15 or a later version. There is no need for any beta versions of Android Auto, as the functionality is currently being rolled out for users with devices running Android 15 or higher. This indicates that the feature should soon be accessible to a broader audience.
Games Only Work When the Car is Parked
According to a footnote on Google's official website, engaging in games on Android Auto necessitates a compatible mobile device running Android 15 or a later version. Additionally, your vehicle's touchscreen must be equipped to support Android Auto, and gaming is only permitted when the vehicle is parked. Although games will be visible in the app drawer while the vehicle is in motion, they will be obscured and inaccessible until the car is in park.
For those interested in exploring this feature, it is compatible with select games and requires the appropriate versions of both Android and Android Auto. This functionality provides a novel form of entertainment while the vehicle is stationary; however, it is crucial to note that not all Android games will be supported. As this feature develops, it is anticipated that more games will be included in the offering.
