AirTag 2 Expected to Debut in Early Summer 2025
8 days ago | 5 Views
Apple introduced its inaugural AirTag in 2021, and it has largely retained its original design over the past four years. Nevertheless, the technology company is now set to launch an updated version in the near future. The main purpose of the AirTag is to assist users in locating common items like wallets and keys via Apple's Find My app, a tool that has proven particularly beneficial for travelers. Currently, with speculation emerging online, it appears that Apple is preparing to reveal the next iteration of this device shortly.
AirTag 2: Release Date (Expected)
The first-generation AirTag has undergone several software enhancements over the years, including firmware updates and the introduction of features such as the 'Share Item Location' option in iOS 18.2. Nevertheless, the hardware has remained unchanged since its initial release. This is expected to change with the upcoming AirTag 2.
Speculation indicates that Apple intends to unveil the new AirTag model in May or June. This timeframe was initially reported by the reputable leaker Kosutami in February and has since been corroborated by multiple industry insiders. Mark Gurman, a prominent Apple analyst, previously indicated in November that the launch would likely take place mid-year. By January, he noted that the AirTag 2 was approaching production, suggesting that its release is on the horizon.
AirTag 2: What to Expect
Although there has been no official announcement regarding major design alterations for the AirTag 2, it is anticipated that it will maintain the original model's compact, circular form. Some users have suggested modifications, such as the inclusion of a keyhole or a flatter profile, but these proposals remain unverified.
Nonetheless, the AirTag 2 is expected to introduce several significant enhancements. It is likely to feature an improved range, a more advanced wireless chip, and upgraded privacy measures to mitigate concerns about its potential misuse for stalking. In the past, Apple has implemented changes to safeguard users, including the addition of sound alerts when the AirTag is away from its registered owner. However, earlier models included a removable speaker, which posed a risk of tampering. The new version may come equipped with a more secure, tamper-resistant speaker and could integrate additional advanced functionalities.
