There has been considerable speculation that Goa intends to secure India's T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, for the forthcoming domestic season. It was suggested that he might join Yashasvi Jaiswal in transferring to Goa. However, Abhay Hadap, secretary of the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), dispelled these rumors on Thursday, affirming that the right-handed batsman remains dedicated to Mumbai.

The conversation surrounding Suryakumar Yadav gained traction following the announcement that Yashasvi Jaiswal is seeking to join Goa for the upcoming domestic season. It is anticipated that the 23-year-old will take on the role of captain for Goa later this year when the domestic season resumes.

"The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) is aware of the rumors circulating on social media regarding Suryakumar Yadav's supposed decision to transfer to Goa instead of continuing with Mumbai," stated Abhay Hadap in an official communication.

"MCA officials spoke with Suryakumar this morning and can confirm that these rumors are entirely unfounded and false. Suryakumar Yadav remains committed to Mumbai and takes great pride in representing the team. We encourage everyone to avoid spreading misinformation and to support our players as they contribute to the Mumbai Cricket Association," he added.

Regarding Suryakumar Yadav, the right-handed batsman last represented Mumbai against Vidarbha in the Ranji Trophy semi-final, where he scored 0 and 23 runs. Prior to that, he participated in a match against Haryana in the prestigious red-ball tournament, scoring 9 and 70 runs.

At 34 years old, Suryakumar made his first-class debut for Mumbai during the 2010-11 Ranji Trophy season. In his inaugural match against Delhi, he achieved a half-century. His breakout season occurred in 2011-12 when he became Mumbai’s top run-scorer in the Ranji Trophy, delivering several key performances, including a career-defining double century against Odisha.

Yashasvi Jaiswal joins Goa

According to a report from the Hindustan Times, Yashasvi Jaiswal reached out to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) via email to request a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) to leave Mumbai and join the Goa team.

On Thursday, MCA Secretary Abhay Hadap confirmed that the association had issued the NOC to the left-handed opening batsman. "Indeed, we have provided him with the NOC. While it is unexpected for us, Mumbai has sufficient depth in talent. This opens up an opportunity for another player. We wish Yashasvi all the best," he stated.

Jaiswal made his Ranji Trophy debut for Mumbai during the 2018-19 season and gained prominence in the 2021-22 season by scoring three consecutive centuries, contributing significantly to Mumbai's run to the final.

Previously, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) mandated that all centrally-contracted players must participate in domestic cricket to remain eligible for central contracts and national team selections.
