Mayank Yadav is regarded as one of India's most promising young talents, particularly as a fast bowler who possesses the potential to be a key player for any team for many years, thanks to his blend of precision and remarkable speed. However, he has already exhibited a troubling history of injuries and is currently in rehabilitation following another setback shortly after his international debut.
Despite this, there has been an encouraging response regarding his recovery from injury from the mentor of Lucknow Super Giants, the esteemed former Indian pace bowler Zaheer Khan, who has provided a hopeful update on Mayank's condition and his anticipated return to competitive play.
“We have engaged in some productive discussions regarding his recovery and fitness plan with the NCA. We are collaborating with them and are optimistic about their assistance,” Zaheer stated in an interview with the Times of India. “He is not only crucial for LSG but also for the future of Indian cricket.”
Mayank Yadav gained significant attention and international acclaim during IPL 2024, where his capability to reach speeds exceeding 150 km/h was particularly impressive, especially considering his age and his skill in maintaining control over his line and length. Unfortunately, he was limited to just four matches for LSG before an abdominal injury sidelined him for a substantial portion of the year.
‘We want him 150% fit…’
Zaheer expressed, "A bowler of his quality ought to maintain a consistent performance over an extended period." He, having navigated his own challenges with injuries throughout his lengthy career with India, emphasized, "I am dedicating significant effort and resources to create an optimal environment for him to extend his playing career. Our goal is to ensure he is 150% fit, and we will take all necessary measures to achieve peak fitness."
Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, LSG retained Mayank Yadav for INR 11 crore, demonstrating their confidence in him as a promising bowler for the future, despite his limited experience at the highest level. He will join a seam-bowling lineup that features Avesh Khan, Akash Deep, and Shamar Joseph.
Mayank made his international debut for India during the T20I series against Bangladesh in October 2024, where he showcased a commendable performance. However, a back injury has sidelined him since then, preventing his participation in the entire Indian white-ball domestic season. Both Indian and Lucknow fans are hopeful for his timely return ahead of the IPL commencing in late March.
