Zaheer Khan, the legendary Indian fast bowler, commended Varun Chakaravarthy for his remarkable consistency across all phases of the game since his return to international cricket. Chakaravarthy, who made his debut during the 2021 T20 World Cup, faced a setback when he was excluded from the squad following an underwhelming performance in the UAE. Nevertheless, he earned a recall last year due to his impressive displays in domestic competitions and the IPL. Since rejoining the team, Varun has participated in 12 T20 internationals, taking 33 wickets at an average of 11.25.

He was also awarded Player of the Series against England, having taken 14 wickets in five matches, which included a five-wicket haul in the third T20I.

Zaheer expressed his admiration for Varun, noting that he poses a constant threat regardless of the game's phase.

"He is an all-phase bowler. Just give him the ball during the powerplay, and you have seen how effectively he has performed in the series. In the middle overs, he remains a significant threat. Overall, this is a strong asset for the Indian bowling lineup," Khan stated on Cricbuzz.

The esteemed pacer further evaluated Varun's various bowling techniques, which have contributed to his improvement over time.

"Varun's return to form has been quite impressive. He continues to enhance his skills, demonstrating remarkable accuracy in targeting the stumps. There is also a subtle drift, allowing his variations to be effective, including deliveries that move away from right-handed batsmen," the former Indian pacer remarked.

‘Everything is just falling into place for Varun Chakaravarthy’

Zaheer expressed his astonishment at Varun's impressive performance, noting that he achieved nearly three wickets per match during the five-match T20I series.

"Everything is aligning perfectly. The wickets are boosting his confidence. It is essential to maintain this momentum and continue with the strategies that have proven effective for him—averaging almost three wickets per game in this format," he remarked.

In the fifth T20I, the enigmatic spinner secured two wickets during the middle overs, significantly hindering England's pursuit in their challenging chase. Earlier, Abhishek Sharma delivered a remarkable innings, scoring 135 runs off 54 balls, including 7 fours and 13 sixes, which helped India reach a total of 247/9. In response, England struggled to compete and were dismissed for a mere 97 runs.
