Yuvraj’s Guidance Could Turn Arjun Into the Next Gayle, Says Yograj Singh

Yuvraj’s Guidance Could Turn Arjun Into the Next Gayle, Says Yograj Singh

Yograj Singh has accomplished it once more. Recognized for his outrageous comments, the former Indian cricketer has once again stirred up controversy, this time making a significant assertion about Arjun Tendulkar. The son of the iconic Sachin Tendulkar, Arjun trained under Yograj approximately two years ago when he transitioned from Mumbai to make his Ranji Trophy debut for Goa. At that time, Sachin had asked Yuvraj for Yograj to mentor Arjun, and the arrangement worked wonders as the young talent scored a century on his Ranji Trophy debut. Although the partnership was brief, Yograj is convinced that the sky is the limit if Arjun can now be guided by Yuvraj.

Yuvraj may not be making headlines frequently, but his influence on the emergence of Shubman Gill and now Abhishek Sharma has been well-documented. If the two-time World Cup champion can collaborate closely with Arjun, Yograj raised the stakes, confidently asserting that Tendulkar Jr. has the potential to become the next Chris Gayle of international cricket.

"Regarding Arjun, I mentioned, concentrate less on his bowling and more on his batting. However, if Yuvraj – who is very close to Sachin – takes Sachin's son under his guidance for three months, I am certain he will evolve into the next Chris Gayle. It often occurs that a fast bowler, if he experiences a stress fracture, cannot bowl as efficiently. I believe that Arjun should be entrusted to Yuvraj for some time," he stated to CricketNext.

What's been up with Arjun Tendulkar?

Arjun last participated in competitive cricket in December – representing Goa in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. A month earlier, he achieved his first-ever First-Class five-wicket haul, securing 5/25 against Arunachal in the Ranji Trophy. This followed closely after he recorded figures of 4/81 against Sikkim. Arjun has competed in six matches for Mumbai Indians.

In 2023, he played in 4 games, taking three wickets, but in 2024, with MI already out of contention, Arjun bowled two full-tosses to Nicholas Pooran and was hit for two sixes. Furthermore, Arjun had to leave the field right away due to injury, unable to finish the over. The stress fracture that Yograj mentioned has already troubled Arjun's career.
