FFormer Indian cricketer Yograj Singh shared his thoughts on the viral mention of "chappal (slipper)" in Yuvraj Singh's tweets about India batter Abhishek Sharma. He also discussed how his son, a cricket legend and two-time World Cup champion, has been mentoring the Sunrisers Hyderabad player.

In March 2024, Abhishek earned the Player of the Match title after an explosive 23-ball 63, helping SRH secure a 31-run victory over the Mumbai Indians in a thrilling match. He also set a record for the fastest fifth by an SRH player, achieving it in just 16 balls. However, Yuvraj wasn't completely satisfied with the performance, as he hoped his protégé would have reached a century.

"Wow, Abhishek, great innings! But what a way to get out! Ghosts of missed opportunities don’t listen to reason! A special chappal is waiting for you now, Abhishek Sharma," Yuvraj posted on X.

The 'chappal' comment resurfaced earlier this year when Abhishek scored a remarkable 135 against England in a T20I series at home. A thrilled Yuvraj responded to the innings, saying: "Well played @IamAbhiSharma4! That’s the level I want to see you at! So proud of you." In a playful response, Abhishek joked that he was glad to receive a message that didn’t end with a warning about getting 'hit by a chappal.'

What does the 'chappal' reference mean?

On his podcast 'Find a Way', former Indian cricketer Taruwar Kohli chatted with Yograj, who shared his thoughts on Abhishek's early days in cricket. He recalled advising Yuvraj to keep an eye on Abhishek's "nightlife" and to ensure he stayed focused on the game. Yograj noted that Yuvraj was quite disciplined in following this advice.

"When Abhishek was playing, I told Yuvraj to manage his nightlife, and he did just that, keeping him grounded. He made sure Abhishek had his shoes in hand... that reference to slippers... so it all worked out well. You have to tame wild horses by holding onto their manes tightly," he explained.

Abhishek is currently playing in the IPL 2025 season, where SRH has retained him for INR 14 crore. He'll be hitting the field at home on Thursday for SRH's match against the Lucknow Super Giants.
