Yuvraj Singh Predicts Rohit Sharma’s Blitz: ‘Century in 60 Balls vs Pakistan’

The alteration in format has resulted in a positive turn of events for India’s captain, Rohit Sharma. Following a challenging Test series in Australia, Rohit regained his form by delivering an impressive century against England in the second ODI held at home. He commenced his Champions Trophy journey on a high note, scoring a brisk 41 runs off 36 balls against Bangladesh. Although he was unable to convert this start into a larger score, his performance was crucial in providing the necessary momentum for India's pursuit of victory.

Since the 2023 ODI World Cup, it has become clear that Rohit has adapted his playing style to optimize his performance during the powerplay. His primary concern is the impact of his runs. He initiated the Champions Trophy in a similar manner. However, akin to his home series against England, if Rohit can maintain his innings for an extended period, he is capable of accumulating significant runs swiftly. As the highly anticipated India vs Pakistan match in Dubai approaches, former Indian all-rounder Yuvraj Singh remarked that the Indian captain has the potential to score a century in just 60 balls if he finds his rhythm.

"If he’s in form, he will score a century in 60 balls. That’s his quality—once he gets going, he’s not just hitting fours; he’s clearing the ropes with sixes. He is also one of the best players of the short ball. Even if someone bowls at 145-150 kmph, Rohit has the ability to hook it effortlessly. His strike rate is always between 120-140, and on his day, he can single-handedly win you the game," Yuvraj stated during a special episode of JioHotstar’s Greatest Rivalry Returns.

The Player of the Tournament from the 2011 ODI World Cup emphasized that Rohit and Virat Kohli will consistently be match-winners, regardless of their current form.

‘Rohit, Kohli match winner irrespective of form’

Rohit Sharma's form, whether strong or weak, is of no concern to me. I will always support my match-winners. In the realm of ODI cricket, particularly in white-ball formats, he has been one of India's foremost match-winners as a batsman, alongside Virat Kohli. Even if Rohit is facing challenges but still manages to score runs, it poses a significant threat to the opposing team, he remarked.

In his 19 ODIs against Pakistan, Rohit has amassed 873 runs, boasting an average of 51.35 and a strike rate of 92.38, which includes two centuries and eight half-centuries. His highest score stands at 140.

Former Pakistan captain Inzamam-ul-Haq also expressed admiration for Rohit and Kohli.

"There is no question that all Indian players possess great skill, but Virat and Rohit are in a category of their own. Their consistent performance over nearly two decades has had a tremendous impact on the team. If they are dismissed early, it significantly affects the atmosphere in India's dressing room and boosts Pakistan's morale. This does not imply that the other Indian players lack talent—they are indeed very skilled—but they are still in the process of development. Similarly, when Babar Azam is dismissed for Pakistan, it energizes the opposing bowlers and increases the pressure on Pakistan's dressing room. For Pakistan to secure victory, the lower and middle order must rise to the occasion. If India loses both Rohit and Virat early, it could provide Pakistan with a crucial advantage," he stated.
