Virat Kohli, the batting virtuoso, made his return to India's playing XI for the second ODI against England, igniting a wave of excitement among the Cuttack crowd eager to witness his performance. The former captain had missed the series opener due to a knee injury but regained fitness in time to participate in the match, stepping in for Yashasvi Jaiswal.

The 37-year-old showcased his impact on the field with dynamic play, successfully taking two significant catches—those of Joe Root and Gus Atkinson.

Additionally, he shared a touching moment with a young fan performing ballboy duties near the boundary. The young admirer was captivated when Kohli extended his hand for a shake, and an edited video capturing the moment quickly gained popularity on social media, drawing comparisons to the reaction of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the hit film Om Shanti Om.

Kohli achieved a match-winning half-century during his previous One Day International at this venue against the West Indies in 2019. However, he was unable to reproduce that performance on Sunday, as he was dismissed for a mere 5 runs. The prominent batsman edged the ball behind the stumps to Jos Buttler off a delivery from Adil Rashid.

Rohit Sharma returns to form with a majestic ton

Rohit Sharma made a remarkable return to form, delivering a stunning century that effectively addressed the doubts raised about his batting abilities. The dynamic opener scored 119 runs from 90 deliveries, featuring 12 boundaries and seven sixes. In the course of these exceptional innings, Rohit also secured the position of the player with the second-highest number of sixes in One Day Internationals.

Currently, he trails only former Pakistan all-rounder Shahid Afridi, who holds the record with 351 sixes throughout his distinguished career in ODIs.

Earlier in the match, Ben Duckett and Joe Root each contributed half-centuries, aiding England in reaching a total of 304 all out in the second ODI. Duckett scored 65 runs off 56 balls, while Root added 69 runs to the scoreboard. Liam Livingstone's contribution of 41 runs helped England surpass the 300-run mark. However, three runouts in the last two overs resulted in England being dismissed for 304 in 49.5 overs.

Indian spinner Ravindra Jadeja showcased his skills with impressive bowling figures of 3 wickets for 35 runs in his 10 overs.
