Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill are key figures poised to advance Indian cricket as it transitions into a new era following the careers of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Former India batting coach Sanjay Bangar asserts that the emergence of the Gill-Jaiswal partnership is reminiscent of the rise of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli over a decade ago.

“They belong to the same age bracket as Virat and Rohit did in 2013. Yashasvi is slightly younger, but the age gap is minimal. Both have made impressive starts in international cricket, positioning them as the trendsetters of the new generation in Indian cricket,” he remarked during a recent episode of Star Sports' program Deep Point.

Conversely, Sanjay Manjrekar noted that while Gill was leading the pack prior to the Australia series, Jaiswal has now reached a comparable level. "Before the Australia series, Shubman Gill was my top choice alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal as the future of India. I believe both will vie for supremacy, and it will be interesting to see who comes out on top."

Bangar further emphasized that Jaiswal possesses the potential to become one of India's premier match-winners. "The initial indicators suggest that Yashasvi Jaiswal could emerge as a key player, assuming he maintains his fitness. His temperament is commendable. He is likely to be among India's leading run-scorers and match-winners in the years to come."

Manjrekar provided insights into his belief that the responsibility has shifted to Jaiswal. "Those who have observed him closely regard him as a promising talent for the future. His impressive start—consistently scoring substantial runs—demonstrates his ambition. He is not merely satisfied with a century in Test cricket; he aims for significant scores. His desire for runs at the highest level is evident. Should the situation require him to play for a draw, he is capable of doing so. He exhibits excellent technique, particularly with his back foot, and possesses the ability to score on challenging overseas pitches. This adaptability is a crucial characteristic for a player of his caliber."

Nevertheless, Manjrekar noted that Gill holds a slight advantage in white-ball formats, while he believes Jaiswal has the potential to close this gap. "Shubman Gill is likely to maintain his dominance in white-ball cricket. Although we have yet to see Yashasvi excel outside of Test matches, the opportunities in that arena are available for him to seize. He possesses the talent, and he will undoubtedly demonstrate it when given the chance."
