Yashasvi Jaiswal Under Fire for Failing to Step Up Amid RR’s Woeful Performance
3 days ago | 5 Views
Yashasvi Jaiswal's performance at the beginning of the season has mirrored that of his team. In the Rajasthan Royals' opening match against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he was dismissed for just one run, followed by a 24-ball innings of 29 in the subsequent game against Kolkata Knight Riders in Guwahati. Former Indian cricketer and KKR player Robin Uthappa remarked that Jaiswal squandered an opportunity to capitalize on his initial success on a challenging pitch and to help his team achieve a competitive score in the latter match.
"This was a chance for him to assume responsibility and steer his team forward. He was a well-set batter on a pitch that posed difficulties for batting," Uthappa commented on Jio Hotstar.
"When I refer to this, I am comparing it to the high-scoring pitches we often encounter today, particularly with the impact player rule allowing teams to include up to eight specialist batters and an all-rounder, effectively providing them with nine batting options. This depth allows batters to be more aggressive, but it is essential to assess the conditions and the match situation. Regrettably, Yashasvi did not manage to do that today."
Jaiswal contributed to a 33-run opening partnership with Sanju Samson and followed it with a 34-run collaboration with stand-in captain Riyan Parag. He ultimately fell while attempting to hit big against Moeen Ali in the ninth over. The Royals were restricted to a total of 151/9, which Kolkata Knight Riders chased down with relative ease, thanks to opener Quinton de Kock, who scored an unbeaten 97 off 61 balls. KKR secured victory by eight wickets.
Jaiswal was retained by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 18 crore prior to the mega auction in November last year, having accumulated 435 runs in 16 matches at a strike rate of 155.91, including one century and one half-century. Since making his IPL debut in the 2020 season, Jaiswal has remained with the Royals throughout his career, amassing 1,637 runs in 55 IPL matches at a strike rate of 149.36, with two centuries and nine half-centuries to his name.
