Yashasvi Jaiswal Set to Move from Mumbai to Goa for Domestic Season

Yashasvi Jaiswal, the opening batter for India and Mumbai, is considering a transfer to Goa for the upcoming domestic season. The left-handed player has reached out to the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) via email, requesting a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to facilitate this move. Sources within the MCA confirmed to Hindustan Times on Wednesday that the 23-year-old has indeed sought permission.

The specific reasons for Jaiswal's decision have not been disclosed. A source stated, "Yes, we have received a request from Yashasvi seeking an NOC. He has expressed his desire to relocate to Goa for the upcoming domestic season."

When inquired about the rationale behind Jaiswal's request, the source declined to provide further information, mentioning that the young player cited "personal" reasons. Should the MCA grant approval, Jaiswal would join former players like Arjun Tendulkar and Siddhesh Lad in representing Goa.

Recently, Jaiswal participated in a Ranji Trophy match for Mumbai against Jammu and Kashmir, following a directive from the BCCI mandating that all centrally-contracted players participate in domestic cricket. In that match, Jaiswal scored 4 and 26 runs. It is noteworthy that he has been a part of the Mumbai team since his U19 days.

Jaiswal gained significant attention after scoring a double century for Mumbai in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. His consistent performances in domestic cricket earned him a Test call-up, and he has continued to excel since then.

The Goa Cricket Association has also confirmed Jaiswal's potential move. "Yes, we are looking to bring him on board. The paperwork is still pending, but we are eager to have him, as his experience will benefit the rest of the squad," a source stated.

When asked if Jaiswal would take on the role of captain for Goa, the source remained non-committal, saying, "There is ample time to make that decision. Let's complete the paperwork first."

Jaiswal has firmly established himself as a regular opening batsman in the Indian Test team. During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, which India lost 1-3, he emerged as one of the key players, amassing 391 runs at an average of 43.44, including a century in the series opener held in Perth.

Jaiswal's Mumbai journey

Yashasvi Jaiswal made his debut in the Ranji Trophy for Mumbai during the 2018-19 season, competing against Chhattisgarh. In the 2021-22 season, he played a crucial role by scoring three consecutive centuries, contributing significantly to Mumbai’s run to the final. Additionally, he became the youngest player to score a double century in List A cricket when he achieved 203 runs against Jharkhand in the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

Jaiswal's underwhelming returns in IPL 2025

Retained by the Rajasthan Royals for INR 18 crore, Jaiswal has struggled to find his form in the 18th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). In three matches, he has recorded scores of 1, 29, and 4, totaling just 34 runs.

Currently, the Rajasthan Royals sit ninth in the IPL standings, having earned 2 points from 3 matches. The team is set to face the Punjab Kings on Saturday, April 5.
