In a big move ahead of the IPL 2025 season, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has signed South African all-rounder Wiaan Mulder to take the place of England's Brydon Carse. Carse, who was originally on the SRH roster, is out of the tournament due to a toe injury he picked up during the ICC Champions Trophy, specifically in the first match against Australia.

The IPL governing body released a statement confirming the switch, saying, "Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has selected Wiaan Mulder as a replacement for Brydon Carse for the upcoming TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025." Mulder, known for his all-round skills, will join the SRH team for INR 75 Lakh and is expected to make valuable contributions with both bat and ball.

With a solid track record in international cricket, Mulder has played 11 T20Is, 18 Tests, and 25 ODIs for South Africa, racking up 970 runs and taking 60 wickets. While his Test and ODI performances have been good, he really shines in the shorter formats of the game.

In ODIs, he’s racked up 276 runs over 20 innings, averaging 18.40, and has hit two half-centuries. On the bowling side, he’s taken 22 wickets with an average of 35.13, and his best performance is 3/25. In T20Is, Mulder has scored 105 runs in 11 games, with a top score of 36, and has picked up eight wickets at an average of 24.37.

Outside of international play, Mulder has been a standout in domestic T20 cricket, scoring 2,172 runs in 128 matches at an average of 27.15. His strike rate of 132.92 and 12 fifties showcase his aggressive batting approach. As a bowler, he’s taken 67 wickets with an average of 28.97, boasting impressive best figures of 4/14.

SRH, who were the runners-up in last year’s IPL, will kick off their 2025 season against the Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad on March 23. With Mulder joining the team, SRH is looking to bolster their lineup and stay competitive in the upcoming IPL season.
