SRH was able to stay in contention for the IPL 2025 playoffs with a five-wicket victory over CSK on Friday in Chennai. This outcome allowed SRH to halt their two-match losing streak, while CSK suffered their second consecutive defeat.

In pursuit of 155, SRH achieved 155/5 in 18. 4 overs, thanks to a match-winning partnership between Kamindu Mendis (32*) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19*). In the meantime, the Sri Lankan player scored the runs that secured the win.

Speaking after the match, India international Nitish celebrated his team's win and will be hoping to make a final effort for the playoffs. “The mindset for the team was good, and it went pretty well. We are taking it game by game, and I am proud that we won this match and hopefully will win the upcoming matches as well. (on his collaboration with Kamindu) We discussed playing a normal game and not trying to hit big shots. Focusing on the big boundary and looking to take twos, we successfully chased it down,” he stated.

“(How the pitch performed) It was pretty similar to the first innings, Noor bowled well and Khaleel also bowled well towards the end, grateful we came out on top. This is really important for us; it’s do-or-die for us. Last year, a similar situation occurred when RCB won 7 in a row. Why can’t we do the same this year? It’s about giving 100 percent and the rest we will see,” he added.

SRH currently sits eighth in the IPL 2025 points table with six points from nine matches, ahead of last-placed CSK, who have four points from nine games. This was also CSK’s fourth consecutive loss at the Chepauk. They have tied their record from 2008 and 2012 for the most defeats at Chepauk in a season. In both 2008 and 2012, they lost four matches each. CSK will compete against PBKS in their next match at Chepauk on Wednesday. Meanwhile, SRH will head to Ahmedabad to take on GT on Friday.
