Wasim Akram's Blunt Response to Hafeez's Criticism: 'Don't Want to Give Attention'

Pakistan's lackluster showing in their first ICC tournament at home since 1996 has sparked a deep dive into the problems plaguing the team, which hasn't made a significant mark in tournaments since their Champions Trophy victory in 2017.
There’s been some back-and-forth banter among former players, especially after ex-captain Mohammed Hafeez made comments about players from the 90s, which stirred up quite a reaction.
The latest to weigh in is the legendary Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram, who shared his views on the Dressing Room show and chose not to engage in the ongoing debates.
"I have plenty to say about those who have been talking," Akram remarked, referring to Hafeez's comments. "But I don’t want to give them the spotlight."
“Woh meri zindagi se nikal chuke hai, unke naam bhi nahi lena chahiye," he added, emphasizing that those people are no longer part of his life and shouldn’t even be mentioned.
‘They didn’t leave anything for Pakistan’
Akram's reply follows his longtime bowling partner Waqar Younis sharing their combined stats on X, where he referred to them as '90s ka londa' (90s boys).
Hafeez shared his thoughts on PTV about the cricket legends from the 1990s, saying, "I really admire those players, but when it comes to their legacy, they didn’t leave much for Pakistan."
He pointed out that the lack of achievements from that era contributed to a sense of disinterest in Pakistan cricket in the years that followed.
“They never clinched an ICC title – they fell short in 1996, 1999, and 2003. We made it to one final, but it was a tough loss. They were big names, true superstars,” Hafeez noted. “But they didn’t motivate us by winning an ICC trophy.”
After Pakistan's early exit from the tournament due to losses against New Zealand and India, plus a rainout against Bangladesh, they ended up with no wins and a disappointing finish.
Now, Pakistan is hoping to revitalize their white-ball squad as they aim to be serious contenders in future tournaments.
