In anticipation of the Gujarat Titans' match against the Rajasthan Royals, Washington Sundar, the all-rounder for GT, experienced an uncomfortable moment during the pre-match press conference. A question regarding his limited participation in the IPL and a purported quote attributed to him seemed to irritate Sundar, who did not hesitate to express his dissatisfaction.

The reporter initiated the discussion by referencing a statement allegedly made by a commentator, noting that Sundar had only appeared in two IPL matches last season and had played 14 international games. “You had to wait until the fourth game to get your chance, and someone mentioned on air that you played two games and 14 international matches last season,” he remarked.

Sundar, who had been responding to questions with composure until that moment, did not shy away from expressing his frustration. “What is the question?” he asked, clearly annoyed. When the reporter reiterated the question and suggested that Sundar himself had made the comment, the all-rounder interjected: “I said that? When did I say that? Did you hear me say that?”

The reporter clarified that the statement originated from a commentator, not from Sundar, which allowed the 24-year-old to regain his composure.

“I was certainly looking for the opportunity and preparing diligently,” he stated.

“Being part of the Titans is a tremendous blessing because we engage in extensive practice. Our coach emphasizes the importance of putting in the hours, particularly in enhancing various aspects of the game, which has been beneficial for me. This approach ensures that I am consistently improving, and whenever the opportunity arises, I will be ready.”

Sundar prolific with the bat

When The long-awaited opportunity for Sundar materialized during GT's match against Sunrisers Hyderabad last week, where he truly delivered. Batting at No. 4, he showcased a balanced yet commanding performance, scoring 49 runs off 29 balls. His partnership of 90 runs with captain Shubman Gill was crucial to Gujarat's successful pursuit of 153 runs, which they achieved with 20 balls to spare and seven wickets in hand. However, Sundar did not bowl in this match, leading to speculation about whether he will be utilized solely as a batsman for the remainder of the season.
