WWE President Nick Khan Highlights India's Importance, Hints at Live Events
4 days ago | 5 Views
John Cena's transformation into a villain is regarded as one of the most significant moments in WWE history. The wrestling community was taken aback when the 16-time World Champion allied with 'The Final Boss,' The Rock, during the Elimination Chamber event in 2025. This alliance was followed by a brutal assault on the reigning WWE Universal Champion, Cody Rhodes. Fans can now look forward to an exhilarating match between Cody and John Cena at the grandest event of the year—WrestleMania 41.
Beginning April 1, all WWE programming, including Wrestlemania and other flagship shows, will have a new home on Netflix in India. This change allows fans of sports entertainment to access instant replays if they miss the live broadcasts, as WWE content will no longer be available on traditional television.
The entire WWE roster is currently touring Europe for its weekly flagship shows, RAW and Smackdown. However, WWE has yet to venture into India for live events. While several wrestlers have visited the country for promotional activities, hosting a premium live event remains a future aspiration.
Are there intentions to bring a flagship WWE event to India? WWE President Nick Khan indicates that it is a matter of waiting and observing.
"That is our objective, and we are currently outlining plans for 2026 and 2027. In one of our initial discussions with Netflix after finalizing the deal, they provided us with a list of their priority countries, with India at the top. Given that the race will commence in India on April 1, if it holds significance for Netflix, it certainly holds significance for us. India has always been a priority for us, so we are in the planning stages now, and we will see how it unfolds".
'WWE second most popular sport in India'
During a media session, Nick Khan highlighted that WWE ranks as the second most-viewed sport in India, trailing only cricket. "WWE is the second most popular sport in India, following cricket... It attracts multi-generational audiences. Families enjoy it together, and both men and women watch it individually," he remarked.
He further noted, "You will observe numerous dramas and narratives with profound storylines. This encapsulates our vision of WWE."
Regarding John Cena's recent activities, he has made two appearances on WWE Raw since WrestleMania, where he clarified his recent actions. The Hollywood icon also expressed his discontent with the audience, stating that he has never had their support and feels they have turned him into a figure of ridicule over the years.
What made John Cena's exploration of his darker persona particularly captivating and surprising was the unexpected nature of the shift. Known for his longstanding role as a hero, his turn to a villainous character evoked memories of Hulk Hogan's infamous betrayal when he joined Scott Hall and Kevin Nash to establish the New World Order at WCW's Bash At The Beach in 1996.
This storyline is among the most significant as WrestleMania approaches, and fans are eager to see what unfolds next on Netflix.
Chris Legentil, WWE's executive vice president, stated, "There’s no more channel surfing or uncertainty about what’s on air."
“It’s available live if you prefer that, or you can watch it later at your convenience. This seamless viewing experience is what fans desire," he added.
