The victory against the Rajasthan Royals on Sunday lifted the spirits within the Royal Challengers Bengaluru camp, prompting Tim David to play a prank on Virat Kohli. RCB achieved a decisive 9-wicket win, enhancing their standing on the points table. Kohli maintained his excellent batting form, scoring an unbeaten 62 to lead his team to victory. The batting maestro navigated the challenging pitch carefully, initially scoring 33 runs off 32 balls before accelerating to finish with 62* off 45 balls, which included four boundaries and two sixes.
Following the 9-wicket triumph, RCB's finisher David decided to inject some humor into the situation at Kohli's expense. He concealed one of Kohli's bats in his kit bag, leaving the latter bewildered in the dressing room as he searched for his equipment.
RCB shared a video of the prank on their social media platforms, featuring David playfully teasing the former India captain.
“I want to see how long it will take Virat to realize we have taken one of his bats,” David remarked in the video.
Kohli, initially appearing somewhat perplexed, inquired of his teammates, "I counted my bats yesterday; there were seven. Now, there are only six."
He subsequently examined David's kitbag and discovered his bat, performing some shadow batting to confirm it was indeed his.
After being dismissed, David remarked, “I didn't take it; I merely borrowed it.”
Virat Kohli set the tone for RCB's win
Virat Kohli established the foundation for RCB's victory. Following this incident, he engaged in light-hearted banter with his teammates, stating, “Everyone was aware of it.” Some of his comments were censored during his discussions with other players about the prank.
In the afternoon match on Sunday, Phil Salt (65) and Kohli laid the groundwork for RCB's successful chase of 174 runs, forming an opening partnership of 92 runs off 52 balls, which significantly contributed to the team's effort. After Salt was out in the ninth over, Kohli took control of the innings, ensuring Rajasthan had no opportunity to come back.
Devdutt Padikkal, who entered as an Impact Player, also displayed impressive form with an unbeaten 40 runs off 28 balls, while Kohli smoothly reached yet another IPL half-century. The pair added 83 runs off 54 balls, leading Bengaluru to victory with 15 balls remaining.
