Virat Kohli's return to Delhi for the Ranji Trophy did not meet expectations, as the Indian batsman struggled to make an impact in the first innings. The 36-year-old was dismissed for a mere 6 runs off 15 balls, with Railways fast bowler Himanshu Sangwan uprooting his stumps early in the innings.

Prior to his dismissal, Kohli executed a magnificent straight drive for a boundary, but when he attempted a similar shot again, Sangwan adjusted his length and successfully deceived Kohli, resulting in the Indian cricket icon being bowled out. This dismissal dashed the hopes of the numerous fans who had gathered to witness his performance.

Following Kohli's exit, a significant number of fans began to leave the stadium.

Kohli's recent struggles with form have been notable. He joined the Delhi Ranji squad following a challenging season, having scored only one century and failing to achieve a single half-century in ten Test matches. His solitary century occurred during the opening Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy in Perth, but he was unable to maintain that momentum, accumulating less than 100 runs in total across the subsequent four matches of the series.

The disappointing performances, not only from Kohli but also from the entire Indian batting lineup, led the BCCI to require international players to participate in the Ranji Trophy.

Earlier this week, Kohli trained with Delhi's Ranji team on Tuesday and Wednesday, and he took to the field under the captaincy of Ayush Badoni on the first day.
