Virat Kohli's eagerly awaited return to the Ranji Trophy has resulted in disappointment among fans, as the Indian batsman struggled to make an impact on Day 2 of the current match between Delhi and Railways. Kohli was dismissed for a mere six runs, raising further concerns regarding his form.
Kohli took to the crease on Friday following the dismissal of Yash Dhull. He faced several deliveries, managing to score six runs off 15 balls. He opened his account with a single but soon faced the bowling of Himanshu Sangwan. Initially, Kohli struck a boundary off Sangwan, but the bowler ultimately triumphed. On the very next delivery, Kohli ventured out of his crease, only for the ball to turn back in after pitching, resulting in a hit to the off-stump through the gap between bat and pad.
The unexpected dismissal left Kohli and the spectators at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in disbelief.
Who is Himanshu Sangwan?
Sangwan is a right-arm medium pacer from Delhi who made his List A debut for Railways in September 2019 during the 2019-20 Vijay Hazare Trophy. He also debuted in T20 cricket at the 2019-20 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and made his first-class debut for Railways in December 2019 at the Ranji Trophy.
Previously, he served as a ticket collector at the New Delhi Railway Station. Additionally, he received training at the MRF Pace Foundation under the guidance of Australian cricket legend Glenn McGrath.
Kohli has recently struggled with his batting performance, particularly during the recent Test matches against Australia and New Zealand. As a result of his form, along with that of other Indian players, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has urged national team members to participate in the ongoing Ranji Trophy. Fans have also had the opportunity to see Rohit Sharma play for Mumbai, while Shubman Gill, Ravindra Jadeja, and Yashasvi Jaiswal have also been active in the tournament.
