Virat Kohli’s Clever Setup: Signals for Faf du Plessis’ Dismissal, Grabs the Catch Moments Later

For a long time, Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis were teammates in the Royal Challengers Bengaluru dressing room. Kohli batted at the top of the order with Faf during their stint at RCB, so he’s well aware of the South African's batting style. When Faf, now playing for Delhi Capitals, faced his old team RCB in a match on Sunday night in Delhi, Kohli took the opportunity to give some tips to the bowlers on how to get Faf out. Kohli was seen on camera signaling to the bowler that Faf probably wouldn’t attempt a sweep shot and even made a gesture for a catch. Interestingly, just an over later, Kohli caught the ball at long-on, leading to Faf's dismissal.

Check it out:

Faf returned to the DC XI after missing several matches for the team due to an illness. However, the South African appeared far from threatening during his time at the crease, scoring at a strike rate of less than 100 throughout the Powerplay. Faf encountered difficulties in gaining momentum throughout his innings and was ultimately dismissed by Krunal Pandya for a mere 22 runs off 26 deliveries. Nonetheless, Abhishek Porel provided DC with an electrifying start, racing to 26 runs off only 11 balls before being dismissed by Josh Hazlewood.

The Australian, unrelenting with his accurate lengths, required three balls to achieve the breakthrough as he induced Porel to be caught behind down the leg side.

Karun Nair, who commenced with a short arm pull off Hazlewood for a boundary, played a lackluster shot off Yash Dayal in the subsequent over, and his mishit was caught at mid-wicket.

The spinners entered the fray after the Powerplay, and overs 7-10 marked the phase when RCB was able to halt the run flow. They conceded only 20 runs across the four overs bowled by Suyash Sharma and Krunal Pandya, who removed du Plessis during that period.

DC only managed to gain some momentum towards the conclusion of the innings, owing to Tristan Stubbs's (34) explosive performance.

The 18th and 19th overs bowled by Hazlewood and Dayal yielded 17 and 19 runs, respectively, allowing DC to surpass the 160-run threshold.

KL Rahul emerged as DC's highest run-scorer in their innings, amassing 41 runs; however, he faced 39 deliveries to achieve this total.
