Virat Kohli, the batter for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, humorously reflected on his past during a viewing of an old interview from IPL 2011 on Wednesday. The 36-year-old found himself in fits of laughter as he watched his younger self deliver an acceptance speech after receiving the Player of the Match award following RCB's victory over the Delhi Daredevils (now known as Delhi Capitals) 14 years ago.

This match, notable for Brendon McCullum's explosive 158, marked Kohli's first Player of the Match accolade, achieved just four years after his IPL debut, in front of his home crowd in Delhi. The then 22-year-old scored 56 runs off 38 balls, including eight fours and two sixes, helping RCB successfully chase down a target of 162 with three balls remaining.

During the post-match press conference, Kohli discussed his role as the aggressor in a second-wicket partnership of 82 runs with opener Chris Gayle. He remarked, "Honestly, I didn’t intend to bat that way. However, once I started connecting well with the ball, I took the initiative from Chris. That was the strategy we agreed upon, allowing him to settle in while I went for my shots since I was in good form."

In a During a candid discussion on '18 Calling 18' on JioHotstar, Kohli was presented with a video of his first Player of the Match award in the IPL.

"I can't even recall what I said. You all must have retrieved it from somewhere," he responded.

As Kohli attentively watched the video, he laughed when Gayle's name was mentioned. Although he felt a bit embarrassed about his post-match comments from 2011, he humorously poked fun at himself.

"Chris could play himself in? Wow! What a misunderstanding! Ever since social media exploded, fans have begun to scrutinize players' statements, and it has become excessively distorted," he remarked.

Kohli is presently participating in the IPL 2025 season, representing RCB. So far in this season, he has accumulated 164 runs across four innings, including two half-centuries, with a strike rate of 143.86.
