What went down between Virat Kohli and the Australian media at Melbourne airport on Thursday morning? Channel 7 reported that Kohli had a tense moment with a TV reporter who was there hoping to catch a glimpse of him. The issue? He was frustrated that he and his family were being filmed without their permission.
Channel 7 reporter Theo Doropoulos mentioned, “Kohli got a bit worked up when he noticed the cameras, thinking they were filming him with his kids, which was mostly a misunderstanding.”
Kohli made his feelings clear, stating, “I need some privacy when it comes to my kids; you can’t just film us without asking.”
The Australian TV channel got most things right, except for one detail. They might have exaggerated a bit with their headline, saying Kohli lost his temper and got into a heated argument. In reality, there was no drama from Kohli or his family.
Journalist Vimal Kumar, who chatted with a few of Kohli's close friends and two Indian fans who were there, mentioned that Kohli wasn't thrilled about the cameras being aimed at him while he was holding his son Akaay. However, he didn’t freak out. Instead, he kindly asked the reporter and the cameraman to stop.
"Virat was sitting with Akaay on his lap, and his daughter Vamika was right behind him when he noticed the cameras. He gestured to them and said, 'If you're filming me, you need to ask for my permission,'" he shared on his YouTube channel.
Vimal also pointed out that the Australian TV reporter initially claimed they weren't filming Kohli with his son, but when Kohli asked to see the footage, the truth came out. Channel 7 chose not to show any footage of Kohli's kids, likely because he raised concerns at the airport..
There's a lot at stake in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy
Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah are the only Indian players bringing their families along on the current tour in Australia. Kohli was the first to arrive in Melbourne, while the rest of the team came in on a different flight later on.
India has a day off on Friday and will kick off their training at the MCG on Saturday. The series is tied at 1-1, with India taking the win in Perth, Australia bouncing back in Adelaide, and the last Test in Brisbane ending in a draw due to bad weather. With just two Tests left, it’s clear that the Boxing Day Test in Melbourne, starting on December 26, will be crucial in determining the series winner.
