In a remarkable performance, veteran fast bowler Mohammed Shami achieved his first five-wicket haul in a Champions Trophy match, leading to Bangladesh being dismissed for 228 runs. However, the Indian team exhibited several fielding lapses during the game. One notable error involved wicketkeeper KL Rahul, which provoked a strong reaction from former captain Virat Kohli.

The incident occurred on the initial delivery of the 23rd over when Jaker Ali ventured out of his crease to challenge a fuller delivery from Ravindra Jadeja aimed at the leg stump. Attempting to flick the ball, he failed to make contact, creating an ideal chance for India to dismiss Bangladesh's sixth batsman. Unfortunately, Rahul was unable to secure the ball, resulting in a missed stumping opportunity. This blunder visibly frustrated Kohli, who reacted by vocally expressing his displeasure.

Jaker experienced a second reprieve from dismissal during the innings. On the initial delivery he faced, he edged a ball outside off-stump from Axar Patel to Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, positioned at slip. However, Sharma failed to secure the catch, thereby preventing the spinner from achieving a maiden ODI hat-trick. The 37-year-old promptly expressed his remorse to Axar, folding his hands in apology while striking the ground in frustration.

Bangladesh set 229-run target

Jaker capitalized on two fortunate opportunities to achieve a remarkable fifty, while forming a record partnership of 154 runs with centurion Towhid Hridoy. Hridoy secured his first ODI century in 114 balls, hitting six fours and two sixes. This partnership, the highest for the sixth wicket in Champions Trophy history, enabled Bangladesh to recover from a precarious position, having been reduced to 35 for five during the powerplay, ultimately posting a commendable total of 228.

On the Indian side, Mohammed Shami excelled with an impressive five-wicket haul, while Harshit Rana contributed by taking three wickets.
