Virat Kohli and KL Rahul will be absent from the upcoming round of the Ranji Trophy. According to ESPNCricinfo, both players have notified the BCCI's Medical Team of minor injuries, preventing them from participating in their respective state teams for the next round, which is scheduled to commence on January 23.

The BCCI has recently mandated that all centrally contracted players must compete for their state teams in domestic cricket to remain eligible for selection and central contracts. The board has also indicated that non-compliance may result in strict repercussions.

Furthermore, the board has specified that any player unable to participate must seek permission from the national chairman of selectors, Ajit Agarkar, and head coach Gautam Gambhir.

As reported by ESPNCricinfo, Kohli experienced neck pain during the fifth and final Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy against Australia in Sydney. Three days post-series, he received an injection on January 8, 2025.

The report also mentions that Kohli has communicated to the BCCI medical staff that he continues to experience discomfort. Consequently, the 36-year-old has been ruled out of Delhi's forthcoming match against Saurashtra in Rajkot.

Kohli was recently included in Delhi's squad for the match against Saurashtra, although his participation was noted as "subject to availability."

KL Rahul has an elbow issue

KL Rahul, the right-handed batsman, is currently dealing with an elbow injury, which will prevent him from participating in Karnataka's Ranji Trophy match against Punjab.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma will have another opportunity to compete in the Ranji Trophy as the final round of the group stage commences on January 30.

This concluding round of the Ranji Trophy will take place just before the ODI series against England. Rishabh Pant (Delhi), Yashasvi Jaiswal (Mumbai), and Shubman Gill (Punjab) are set to participate in the upcoming Ranji Trophy round, starting January 23.

Both Kohli and KL Rahul are anticipated to be included in the squad for the ODIs against England and the Champions Trophy.
