Virat Kohli Urged to Move On from Test Defeats Ahead of Champions Trophy

2 months ago | 5 Views

Former Indian cricketer Mohammad Kaif expressed his confidence in Virat Kohli's ability to perform exceptionally in the forthcoming Champions Trophy in Dubai, despite Kohli's recent struggles in red-ball cricket. The batting legend faced a challenging season in the longer format, where he demonstrated inconsistency against teams such as Bangladesh, New Zealand, and Australia. His vulnerability to deliveries outside the off stump was notably exploited by Australian fast bowlers, leading to repeated dismissals via edges to the wicketkeeper or slip fielders.

Kaif emphasized Kohli's remarkable achievements in the 50-over format and encouraged him to put the Test season behind him, focusing instead on making a significant contribution in the upcoming tournament.

"Virat Kohli is known for his resilience and ability to bounce back. Do not underestimate him in white-ball cricket; his story is far from finished, as he boasts 50 ODI centuries and nearly 13,000 runs in ODIs. So, let go of the Test performances," Kaif remarked on his YouTube channel.

Kohli had an outstanding performance in the 2023 ODI World Cup, where he set multiple records during a remarkable campaign, amassing 765 runs at an average of 95.62.

Kaif also recalled Kohli's impressive T20I century against Afghanistan during the Asia Cup in 2022.

"He approaches white-ball cricket differently. The last time Virat Kohli played in Dubai, he scored an unbeaten 122 off just 61 balls against Afghanistan, hitting six sixes in that innings. His form was exceptional, and he enjoys playing in Dubai, so I anticipate he will excel with the bat in the Champions Trophy," he added.

The former Indian player stated that if Kohli begins the tournament positively, he will likely maintain that momentum throughout.

"If he performs well in the opening match, he will continue to accumulate runs; I can assure you of that. Virat Kohli is an uncrowned king in white-ball cricket. His era is not over; it will persist," he concluded.

Virat Kohli Kohli to play in Ranji Trophy

Kohli is poised to participate in his first Ranji Trophy match since 2012, having confirmed his availability for Delhi's fixture against Railways, which is set to take place from January 30.

Although Kohli will miss Delhi's upcoming away match against Saurashtra, commencing on January 23, due to a neck sprain, he has informed the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA) of his readiness to play in the team's final league match of the Ranji Trophy.
