Former Indian opener and cricket icon from Mumbai, Wasim Jaffer, has expressed his confidence in Virat Kohli's ability to maintain his performance at the highest level for an additional three to four years. Jaffer believes that Kohli is on a promising path to surpass Sachin Tendulkar’s remarkable record of 100 international centuries.

At the age of 36, Kohli has achieved 82 centuries across all formats, bringing him closer to this significant milestone. His most recent century was scored during India’s impressive six-wicket win against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy held in Dubai, further solidifying his prowess in high-stakes matches.

During the launch of the India Corporate T20 Bash (ICBT20), Jaffer praised Kohli’s enduring talent and relentless pursuit of runs. “As a cricket enthusiast, one wishes to see Virat play as often as possible. Given his form against Pakistan, no one wants to see him dismissed. His runs bring joy to everyone, and I am confident that fans desire to see him play for another 3-4 years and shatter all records,” Jaffer remarked to PTI.

Although Kohli has faced periods of inconsistency, particularly in home conditions, his capacity to perform on the biggest stages is unquestionable. Jaffer is optimistic that the record set by Tendulkar, once deemed unbreakable, now appears attainable for Kohli.

“The century record seems destined for Virat to break. When Sachin Tendulkar reached 100 centuries, it seemed like a feat that would never be surpassed. However, considering the runs Virat has accumulated since 2010, it appears he will achieve this seemingly impossible milestone. Should he succeed, Sachin Tendulkar would undoubtedly be pleased as well,” Jaffer stated.

Jaffer on Gill

In addition to praising Kohli's achievements, Jaffer also commended Shubman Gill, a promising talent for India, while advising against hasty comparisons to Kohli.

"It would be unjust to evaluate Shubman alongside Virat Kohli. Shubman is carving out his own path. He is exhibiting exceptional cricketing skills. During the England series, he was named Man of the Series, and he has made a strong start in the Champions Trophy. I hope he maintains this momentum, as there are high expectations for him," remarked the former cricketer.

Emphasizing the emerging generation of Indian batsmen, Jaffer expressed optimism for the future, stating, "He, along with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, is set to advance Indian batting. It is a pleasure to observe the manner in which he plays the game."
