The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm, as thousands of supporters chanted "RCB, RCB" in a warm welcome for Kohli, highlighting the extent of his popularity.

Kohli's participation in the match between Delhi and Railways marked a significant event, with fans erupting in cheers each time he acknowledged them while positioned at slips.

The excitement surrounding Kohli's return escalated dramatically when a fan, overwhelmed with emotion, managed to breach security to approach the 36-year-old cricketer. The fan rushed onto the field, bowed before Kohli, and touched his feet before security personnel intervened and escorted him away.

This incident, which was recorded on video, has since gained widespread attention online.

The excitement surrounding Kohli's return extended beyond the enthusiastic displays of his supporters. A report from Sports Tak indicated that the crowd's fervour led to a stampede outside the stadium, as attendees jostled to catch a glimpse of the batting legend. This chaotic situation resulted in injuries to three individuals, one of whom required a bandage for a leg injury.

Additionally, a security guard was injured amid the turmoil. The Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) security personnel, in collaboration with the police, provided medical assistance to those hurt and worked to manage the crowd control efforts. Furthermore, a police motorcycle was also damaged during the incident.

Kohli's last participation in the Ranji Trophy occurred in 2012 when Delhi played against Uttar Pradesh in Ghaziabad. Although he had already secured his status as India's leading batsman across all formats, his return to domestic cricket follows several months of disappointing performances in the longest format.

From August of last year to January, Kohli managed to score only one century and did not achieve any half-centuries in ten Test matches.

This upcoming match against Railways will be his sole Ranji appearance for the time being, as he will soon redirect his attention to the forthcoming ODI series against England. Fans are optimistic that Kohli will seize this opportunity to accumulate vital runs in preparation for the eagerly awaited Champions Trophy 2025.
