The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is taking action ahead of the crucial tour to England in June, as several key players from the Indian Test squad are expected to join the 'A' team for two four-day matches against the Lions. These warm-up games are set to take place in late May and early June, serving as preparation for the five-match Test series against England.
The senior team's journey kicks off on June 20 with the first match at Headingley. This series will also mark the start of the 2025/27 World Test Championship cycle. India A will begin their tour games on May 30, with the first match taking place at The Spitfire Ground, St Lawrence in Canterbury. The second match is lined up for June 6 at the County Ground in Northampton, as confirmed by the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB).
As reported by PTI, some prominent Indian Test players are likely to feature in the 'A' team for these matches. This situation could add pressure on these players, who are currently tied to their respective IPL franchises. The IPL 2025 playoffs are scheduled for May 20, 21, and 23, with the final on May 25.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might be called up to play for India A, especially given their recent struggles in red-ball cricket. The Indian captain has only managed 164 runs across three Test series since September, including a mere 31 runs during the tour of Australia. Kohli, meanwhile, averaged just 23.75 in the Australian series, despite scoring a century in the first match in Perth.
Karun Nair is set to be selected for the tour to England
The report mentioned that Nair might be selected for the India A team for the upcoming two matches against the Lions. The experienced Indian batsman wrapped up an impressive domestic season, finishing as the top scorer in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and ranking fourth in the Ranji Trophy with a total of 863 runs from nine games, averaging 54, which included four centuries and two half-centuries.
