Jasprit Bumrah returned to action on Monday as Mumbai Indians took on Royal Challengers Bengaluru in their IPL 2025 fixture, at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. The match had its fair share of drama as Jasprit Bumrah also had an exciting showdown with Virat Kohli.

In the 11th over of the first innings, the pair were involved in some banter as Bumrah picked up the ball after RCB captain Rajat Patidar thought of going for a single, and then retreated. In response, Bumrah turned around and play-acted that he was going to throw the ball at Kohli’s end.

Then as the MI pacer was walking back, Kohli responded to Bumrah’s funny run-out attempt, with a shove at him. In response to Kohli’s shoulder bump, the crowd went berserk, and roared in excitement. Many were also probably reminded of his controversial shoulder bump with Sam Konstas during the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. In many ways, this was like the Konstas shoulder bump incident, but it had its special hilarious twist.

The match featured Kohli achieving a half-century, concluding with a score of 67 runs off 42 deliveries, which included eight fours and two sixes, resulting in a strike rate of 159.52.

RCB finished their innings with a total of 221 runs for the loss of 5 wickets in 20 overs, bolstered by powerful performances from Jitesh Sharma and Rajat Patidar.

In his remarks following the first innings, Kohli stated, “That was quite impressive. After losing a wicket on the second ball, we responded effectively. Dev played a remarkable innings that significantly shifted the momentum in our favor. I also managed to find my rhythm. That partnership was crucial in helping us set a competitive total.

My strength lies in getting a feel for the ball early, which allows me to execute the shots I desire. I attempted to innovate by playing various shots against spin and targeting different areas of the field. It is essential to continually evolve your game to meet the challenges of T20 cricket. When I connect well with the ball early on, I increase my chances of making a meaningful contribution.

Praising Patidar and Jitesh, he remarked, “What Rajat accomplished is typical of his performance. Both Rajat and Jitesh played outstanding innings, helping us secure an additional 20-25 runs. One of their spinners was unable to participate effectively, making it challenging for the chinaman to bowl. This situation contributed to our extra runs.”
