Virat Kohli is synonymous with animated celebrations on the cricket field. Throughout his career, the dynamic Indian batsman has garnered a significant fan base due to his on-field aggression, distinguishing him from other Indian cricket legends. Nevertheless, the 36-year-old has faced criticism for this very trait. Recently, he found himself at the center of controversy after shoulder-bumping Australia's Sam Konstas during the Melbourne Test.

In a frank acknowledgment, Kohli recognized that he sometimes exhibits excessive emotional reactions during matches. However, he justified his behavior by stating that it stems from a genuine place.

During the recent Border-Gavaskar Trophy, Kohli frequently displayed exuberant celebrations. His reaction following Sam Konstas' dismissal in the first innings of the Sydney Test particularly attracted attention, especially after the entire Indian team rushed towards Konstas in response to an incident involving Jasprit Bumrah.

"I do have tendencies to go overboard. I've never shied away from that. For many, it might be difficult to understand. But for me, it always comes from the right place," Kohli remarked during a talk at the RCB Innovation Lab on Saturday.

"My competitive spirit remains strong. One can maintain an aggressive mindset without necessarily expressing it outwardly in moments of frustration, which I have done," he added.

‘People enjoy watching that’

Virat Kohli recognizes that his on-field aggression is appreciated by numerous cricket enthusiasts around the globe. He noted that the supporters of his spirited demeanor significantly outnumber his detractors.

"In recent times, I must admit that I don't take pride in certain aspects of my behavior. While some may criticize me for it, I believe there are many more who enjoy witnessing my passion on the field," he remarked.

Kohli also expressed his excitement regarding cricket's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics, stating that the Indian Premier League (IPL) has significantly contributed to the sport's global prominence.

"Becoming an Olympic champion would be an extraordinary achievement. The IPL has undoubtedly played a crucial role in this development, bringing us to a point where cricket is now part of the Olympics. This presents a wonderful opportunity for our players," Kohli stated.

"The athletes will experience something unprecedented. I am confident that we will be competitive for a medal, with both men and women participating together," he added.

In a light-hearted moment, Kohli joked about the possibility of coming out of retirement from T20 internationals if India reaches the gold medal match in the Olympics.

"For the Olympics, who knows? If we find ourselves competing for the gold medal, I might just make a comeback for one game, secure a medal, and then return home. Nevertheless, this is a fantastic development for the sport as a whole," Kohli concluded.
