Virat Kohli, the star batter for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), experienced a moment of embarrassment when Bollywood icon Shah Rukh Khan led the crowd in enthusiastic chants of 'Kohli Kohli' during the opening ceremony of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. SRK referred to Kohli as the 'GOAT' prior to the former Indian captain's entrance onto the stage.

The atmosphere at Eden Gardens was electric, with the crowd erupting in cheers, allowing SRK and Kohli a brief moment to converse. The warm reception at the home ground of the Kolkata Knight Riders was both vibrant and spirited.

"Virat bhai is the only player who has remained loyal to a single team throughout the IPL's history. He is the original. The GOAT of IPL," Shah Rukh Khan remarked before inviting Kohli to join him on stage. "The king of 22 yards and a billion hearts. Let's give a resounding cheer for the one and only GOAT, Mr. Virat Kohli."

Subsequently, SRK initiated enthusiastic chants of 'Kohli Kohli.' The renowned Indian cricketer appeared visibly flattered and expressed his gratitude to the Bollywood icon. "Thank you, Shah Rukh bhai, for the wonderful introduction," Kohli remarked.

He further stated, "The new generation is progressing well, yet the previous generation remains present. We are prepared to make an impact, continue playing the game, and create lasting memories for our fans."

Kohli and SRK also showcased their dance moves to the immensely popular song 'Jhoome Jo Pathaan,' prompting a wave of applause from the crowd at Eden Gardens. Additionally, BCCI President Roger Binny presented Kohli with a special 'IPL 18' memento to commemorate the opening of the latest edition of the lucrative league.

Shah Rukh Khan chats with Rinku Singh

Before the IPL 2025 opener between KKR and RCB, SRK, the co-owner of the Kolkata-based franchise, also chatted with Rinku Singh on the stage, asking him about how the young players are so fearless in their approach.

Shreya Ghoshal, Karan Aujla, and Disha Patani graced the IPL 2025 opening ceremony with their performances. Shah Rukh Khan served as the host for the event, beginning with an opening monologue and later engaging in conversation with Kohli and Rinku. He also introduced the captains of KKR and RCB, Ajinkya Rahane and Rajat Patidar, who made their entrance on a chariot.

The inaugural match of the 18th edition will feature a clash between the reigning champions KKR and RCB. Notably, this marks the first occasion since the inaugural IPL in 2008 that these two teams are competing in the season's opening game.
