9 days ago | 5 Views
Virat Kohli delivered a poised performance in the IPL 2025 match for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday, scoring an unbeaten 62 runs off 45 balls to lead his team to a convincing 9-wicket victory. This half-century was particularly significant for the 36-year-old as it marked his 100th fifty in T20 cricket, making him the first Indian player to reach this impressive milestone.
As the all-time leading run-scorer in IPL history, Kohli showcased his skill during the innings against the Royals, remaining composed even after a dropped catch early on from Sandeep Sharma, a bowler who has dismissed him seven times in the league. Chasing a target of 174, Kohli played a stabilizing role while his opening partner, Phil Salt, aggressively attacked the Royals' bowling, scoring an impressive 65 runs off just 33 balls.
After Salt's departure, Kohli gradually increased his scoring rate, targeting the spin bowlers Kumar Kartikeya, Maheesh Theekshana, and Wanindu Hasaranga, hitting boundaries against each of them to assert his dominance. He reached his half-century in 39 balls as RCB comfortably achieved the target with several deliveries remaining.
Kohli has become only the second player in history to achieve 100 half-centuries in T20 cricket. Below is the list of the top five players who have reached this milestone in the shortest format:
1. David Warner (Australia) - 108
2. Virat Kohli (India) - 100
3. Babar Azam (Pakistan) - 90
4. Chris Gayle (West Indies) - 88
5. Jos Buttler (England) - 86
Among Indian players, Rohit Sharma is the closest to Kohli, having scored 78 half-centuries.
In addition to Kohli's performance, Devdutt Padikkal contributed significantly with an unbeaten 40 runs off 28 balls, leading RCB to a convincing victory.
RCB ascends to third place
Following their fourth consecutive away win in IPL 2025, the Royal Challengers have climbed to third place in the standings, accumulating 8 points from six matches. Rajat Patidar's team remains undefeated in away games but has yet to secure a win at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
On the other hand, the Rajasthan Royals faced another setback, suffering their fourth loss in six matches. With only four points, they currently sit in seventh place on the points table.
